Shaker Al Jawhari: Damascus’s meeting unprecedented
Al Qassam website - Political analyst Shaker Al Jawhari described the meeting of the head of the Political Bureau of the Islamic Resistance Movement "Hamas", Khalid Meshaal, with Russian President "Dmitry Medvedev" and Syrian President Bashar al-Assad as "unprecedented meeting".
He said, in an exclusive interview with the PIC on Wednesday (12-5), that "this meeting shows how important Hamas has become at the international level".
Al Jawhari pointed to the specificity of this meeting; "as Meshaal visited Russia twice in the last period and did not meet Russian President within the programs".
He believes what striking in this meeting is that "the Russian president is the one who sought it, and that this meeting pave the way for the replacement the Egyptian mediation especially in the area of reconciliation".
About the response of "Hamas" with the Russian effort, Al Jawhari thinks that Hamas is ready to provide political flexibility, excluding the maxims which they set for themselves".
Here is the text of the interview:
Q: How do you interpret the meeting of the head of the Political Bureau of Hamas Khalid Meshaal with the Russian President Dmitry Medvedev?
The meeting of the head of the Political Bureau of the Islamic Resistance Movement "Hamas", Khalid Meshaal, with Russian President "Dmitry Medvedev" and Syrian President Bashar al-Assad is "unprecedented meeting".
This meeting shows how important Hamas has become at the international level.
The specificity of this meeting is that Meshaal visited Russia twice in the last period and did not meet Russian President within the programs.
What striking in this meeting is that "the Russian president is the one who sought it, and that this meeting pave the way for the replacement the Egyptian mediation especially in the area of reconciliation".
Q: In your opinion, what is the importance of this meeting?
The importance of this meeting focuses on the willingness of the great powers to see some change in the policies of "Hamas" movement to be in line with the conditions of the Quartet.
Through this meeting, Russia seeks to get answers that might help to continue international efforts with regard to the Palestinian cause.
Q: What is the reason for this effort with the Russian political movement "Hamas"?
I believe that the recognition of the Zionist entity is the essence of political effort; may be Russia wants to go beyond this point, especially since Abbas has said in one of his statements that "Hamas" is not required to recognize the Zionist entity.
If they were serious about this, new political horizon will blossom, especially in the subject of reconciliation.
Russia may consider the national reconciliation document as a base to Hamas future positions as Hamas has accepted in this document state on the border in 1967 without giving up the occupied territories in 1948, and "Hamas" did not recognize the Zionist entity.
Q: What about the Syrian presence to meet and why?
Russia may want to pave the way for indirect negotiations between Syria and the Zionist entity in conjunction with the Palestinian file.
Q: What is your assessment of the response "Hamas" with the Russian effort?
Hamas is ready to provide political flexibility, excluding the maxims which they set for themselves. Hamas is qualified to achieve gains for the Palestinian people through an international mediator, such as Russia and in conjunction with the Syrian file.
The mouthpiece of Syria and the resistance forces coordinate with each other for access to the best interests of each without compromising on principles.
Q: What are the reasons behind Russian comments that followed the meeting on the file of the Zionist soldier Gilad Shalit?
In the Russian discretion, an explosion is coming, and war may be waged under the title of Shalit, so Russia may play a role to prevent this and solve this dilemma.
Q: Away from the meeting, what do you think the consent of the Executive Committee of the PLO to return to indirect negotiations with the occupation?
The negotiations will focus on two issues: "security and borders", and I think that Netanyahu might reach with the Palestinians understandings related to security but it will not come with anything related to the border, because he wants to gain more time to implement the policies of the Zionist colonial settlement and swallow up more land .
