Childhood and Education
Abdel Ra’ouf was born in a large family in Jabalia Township, near which lies the Jabalia refugee camp. He was the second son in the family. In his childhood, he was known for respecting others and sharing.
Abdel Ra’ouf was educated in the Jabalia governmental schools. He finished his secondary education in Osama Bin Zaid School. Then he enrolled in Al-Azhar University and studied for one year before his martyrdom.
In the Omari mosque in Jabalia, Abdel Ra’ouf spent time learning and practicing Islam through Quran circles and religious classes and lectures. He observed his prayers regularly in the mosque and performed many voluntary deeds in the mosque.
Helper of the poor and orphans
Socially, Abdel Ra’ouf was very active. Despite his numerous commitments for his family, work and jihad, he always offered a helping hand to poor families and orphans. After his martyrdom, many families came to the house of mourning and told Abdel Ra’ouf’s family that he had helped them secure their basic needs. This included alms, clothes, and school needs for the children.
And he played an active role in his community through reconciliation (Islah) committees that resolved disputes among community members.
On the road of Jihad
Abdel Ra’ouf joined the ranks of the Islamic Resistance Movement (Hamas), where he was an example of dedicated activity and sacrifice. Abdel Ra’ouf took part in demonstrations, educational activities, religion and worship deeds, social services, and managing summer camps for children.
In 2001, Abu Mohammad joined the ranks of Ezzedeen Al-Qassam Brigades. After his training, he was one of the few who dedicated their time to patrolling the outskirts of towns and villages in guard against occupation incursions and raids. In addition, he took part in the manufacturing of weaponry and explosives in the Brigades production units.
Abdel Ra’ouf gathered valuable experience through participating in resisting occupation raids on Jabalia, Beit Lahya, and Gaza City. In addition, he executed many missions of shelling occupation military outposts and settlements. More importantly , he planned the operation executed an occupation military outpost shortly before his martyrdom. Three occupation soldiers died in the operation.
Occupation attack on Jabalia
On 29 September 2004, occupation forces attacked the eastern outskirts of Jabalia refugee camp. Scores of tanks, armored personnel carriers and bulldozers attacked residents and destroyed their property. On 9 October, Abdel Ra’ouf received the orders to join the resistance effort east of Jabalia Township. And after 5 days of defending his land and people, Abdel Ra’ouf died as a result of a bullet in the head.
In the end, Abu Mohammad died defending his town against the occupation. His life was full of helping others; and his death was the ultimate sacrifice so that others can live a better life free of the occupation.
