EMOHR urges Europeans to support prisoners' hunger striking

Al Qassam website - The Euro-Mediterranean Observatory for Human Rights (EMOHR) started contacting some European and international officials, within the framework of the European Campaign for the Defense of Palestinian prisoners, which was launched a few days ago, and which aims at supporting the prisoners.

EMOHR said in a statement on Sunday (22-4), that it contacted Council of Europe Commissioner for Human Rights, Mr. Nils Muižnieks, urging him to support the striking  Palestinian prisoners' demands, guaranteed in the international humanitarian law and to exercise pressure on the Israeli government, to stop its punitive policies as well as to use the Council's influence to push the bodies concerned with the issue to support the prisoners' demands.

Meanwhile, in cooperation with the Friends of Humanity International Organization and the Swiss Organization Rights For All Society, EMOHR contacted the Chair of the European Parliament's Subcommittee on Human Rights, Ms. Barbara Lochbihler, to expose what more than 4,600 Palestinian prisoners are suffering from, as the illegal administrative detention, solitary confinement and the deprivation of family visits.

EMOHR revealed that it will meet the Director of International Red Cross operations in Geneva on Tuesday, to ask this organization to intensify its visits to Israeli prisons and increase the number of doctors working there.

It is noteworthy that a delegation from EMOHR had met the Director of Red Cross operations last March, to mediate in the case of the striking ex-captive Hana Shelby and old MP Ahmed Haj Ali and to launch an international call supportive of the striking prisoners which was signed by about 320 international organizations .
