Suliman Abu Yusuf
- Exposed for continuous abuse
- Al Khalil city
He was born in 1968 in the village of Samo' near the city of Al-Khalil. He was raised in a conservative family of 10 children and the parents. He is married and has 3 children (Ahmad, Fatima, Aysha). He completed his preparatory and secondary schools from the this village. He has gone early to work in craftworks in the field building till being arrested. Suliman has a communicative character and he was a loved person between his neighbors and relatives.
Arrest :
Suliman has been imprisoned and tortured many times. In 1988, he was imprisoned and tortured for weeks on charges of membership in Hamas. The interrogators failed to prove the charges; and he was released. And in 1994, occupation forces raided his house and took him to the occupation prison in Al-Khalil. They accused him of sheltering the wanted men of Al-Qassam Brigades in addition to activities against the occupation forces, including detonating bombs against occupation soldiers. After serving a number of administrative detention sentences, Suliman was handed a prison sentence for life.
Health conditions
Suliman suffers from different diseases including heart disease. Occasionally, he is admitted to a hospital for treatment. But occupation forces frequently deny him adequate medication and medical examinations.
Occupation forces refuse to free Suliman because of his bad health conditions despite the efforts of human rights lawyers. His family holds occupation authorities responsible for any deterioration in his health, especially that he urgently needs heart surgery.
Family Visits
Occupation forces rarely allow Suliman’s wife and children to visit him; and none of his relatives are allowed to visit. From the rare visits, the family confirms that Suliman’s morale and spirits are high in spite of his bad health conditions.
Continuous Abuse:
Although Suliman was arrested, occupation forces still abuse his family by raiding their house every now and then. His brother was arrested many times and released during these raids.
